New Year….Same Old Resolutions

So another year has passed and into 2009 we go and with it the same old New Year Resolutions……

I am interested to find out how many people are still sticking to this tradition.  I for one have somehow decided to give up things.  That is not the issue, it is the reason why I decided to do this in January.  After all it is one of the most depressing months; it’s cold, dark, money is a bit tight and it’s at least another five months until I receive some more presents!

This year I intend to give up one thing completely and also change a few other things to hopefully improve my general well-being…..

Firstly, I must give up smoking, apparently it is terribly bad for you (no one told me this) and I must stop it.  I have been smoking for about eight years and I think the routine is the hardest to block out.  Anyway, five days in and I have had no cigarettes at all.  I have not faced the gauntlet of the night out drinking yet though and this is going to be a very tough challenge.  Anyway I will keep you updated on my progress.

I also intend to consistently go to the gym 3-4 times a week this year, eat healthier (bar the Chicken Tikka Bhuna with Rice, Naan and Bhaji’s that Shebab-O-Bab served up for me last night – a tiny slip) and drink less in the week…….and of course buy more sweater vests in 2009.

What New Year Resolutions are you pursuing?

tim jones i have one word for you that due to your resolutions is going to sum up the rest of your year…

    BORING!!

There’s no point giving up drinking in January its the worst month of the year for it – go for April / October instead much easier to do

  3. D Piddy Says:

Agree with Milly – almost impossible….

Resolutions include giving up smoking (on Xmas eve) which thus far I have achieved (am yet to paint the town red though…); and limiting my Meat & Alcohol intake by not spending my own money on them. So, Media Owner lunches, Media Owner drinks and agency drinks are all acceptable as are free vouchers or presents (yes! left over champagne from Christmas). The former is definitely a permanent fixture for 2009 – I may take it up again in 2010. The latter may just be for January, play it by ear.

    Bisos

Three words Tim – EPIC FAIL IMMINENT

I’ve lost 8lbs in one week doing the GM diet…

I’m also aiming for the 3-4 gym visits a week. I even ventured into the weights section on Monday, which I felt proud of as normally I’m too intimidated by the big scary men!
Tip: Write down your planned gyms days in your diary each week- psychological studies show you’re 70% more likely to carry through your plans if you write them down (Ok I made up the % but it’s something impressive)

My resolutions are to detox, go to the gym, drink more water (boring) and also to invest some serious hours in admiring Tims potentially extensive wardrobe of sweatervests.
I will also try to go to Devon at least once a month ;)

  8. D Piddy Says:

2 days into the GM diet. Awful

  9. Tim Jones Says:

Well 9 days in and still no cigarettes, not one, and I haven’t even tried to smell smokers’ clothes either! On the other stuff diet not taken too much shape yet with Thursday’s currygate re-occuring on Saturday at Cafe Zia. However, I do have my eye on a couple of nice sweater vests, so swings and roundabouts at the moment really…..
ps this GM diet sounds interesting!
